Pune: Battle Between Marathas And British Highlighted By Visit Of England Delegation To Karla

Lonavala, 9th October 2022: In the battle between the British and Marathas at Karla on 4th January 1779, the British were defeated. It is recorded in history that British Lieutenant Stuart was killed in this battle.

 

All these incidents are also recorded in the records of England. A delegation from England visited the historical city of Karla to get information about it. At that time, the incident of the battle came to light.

 

At Karla is a pillar of ‘Ishtur Fakda’, who was killed in the battle between British and Maratha soldiers at Karla. A delegation of 15 people from England visited the Karla area and got information about this historical event. History scholar Nitin Shastri informed the delegation about this. Shastri also informed the delegation about the victory column standing at the relevant place so that the biggest battle with the British and the biggest victory won by the Maratha soldiers would be remembered forever.

 

This delegation of academics from England also included retired Colonel Patricks of the British Army. Former member of Karla Gram Panchayat Bhausaheb Hulawle welcomed the delegation. He also told the delegation that every year at this historical place, Victory Day is celebrated to commemorate the victory of Maratha soldiers.
