Pune: Bavdhan Resident Robbed of Gold Chain Near Chandani Chowk

Bavdhan, 19th August 2024: A 52-year-old Bavdhan resident was the victim of a bold daylight robbery on Bhugaon Road near Chandni Chowk on Saturday evening. The incident occurred around 8:30 PM as the man was riding his scooter home.

According to the Hinjawadi Police Station officials, the victim was intercepted by two men on a motorcycle. The pair initially confronted him, accusing him of making an improper turn without signaling. During the altercation, one of the men grabbed the victim’s gold chain, valued at approximately ₹30,000, from his trouser pocket before fleeing the scene.

An officer explained, “The victim, who works for a private company and lives in a housing society off Bhugaon Road, was on his way home when the suspects approached him. The men, riding a motorcycle, forced him to stop by claiming he had made an illegal maneuver.”

The officer detailed further, “The pillion rider began arguing and insulting the victim. While the victim was trying to address the situation, the man frisked him and snatched the chain from his pocket. After the theft, the duo escaped on their motorcycle.”

Following the incident, the victim reported the crime to the police. The Hinjewadi Police have registered a case under sections 318 (cheating) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

“We are currently investigating whether there is a connection between this robbery and three similar incidents reported in the past week,” the officer added.
