Pune: BJ Medical College Officials Caught Accepting Rs 1 Lakh Bribe in ACB Operation
Pune, 3rd April 2025: The Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested an office superintendent and a senior assistant from BJ Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹1 lakh from a furniture supplier in exchange for clearing his pending payment.
According to Shirish Sardeshpande, Superintendent of Police, ACB (Pune), the supplier had delivered furniture to the college and had submitted all necessary bills for payment. However, hospital officials Suresh Bonwale (53), the office superintendent, and Jayant Chaudhary (49), a senior assistant, allegedly demanded a ₹1.3 lakh bribe to process the payment.
“After negotiations, the amount was settled at ₹1 lakh,” Sardeshpande revealed. “Upon receiving a complaint, we conducted a verification of the demand and subsequently laid a trap.”
During the operation, ACB officials caught both accused red-handed while accepting the bribe. “We have initiated proceedings to register an FIR with the Bund Garden police station,” Sardeshpande added.
