Pune, April 3, 2021: As the number of COVID-19 patients is increasing day by day in Pune, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar announced the imposition of some restrictions in the city during a meeting held on Friday (April 3).
A curfew has been declared in Pune from 6 pm to 6 am. It was also announced that bars, hotels, and restaurants in the city will be completely shut for the next seven days and only home delivery service will be resumed.
Pawar also announced that Pune’s PMPML bus service will also halt operations for the next seven days. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly opposed the closure of the PMPML bus service.
BJP workers under the leadership of BJP MP Girish Bapat and former MLA and BJP city president Jagdish Mulik organized an agitation demanding the resumption of the PMPML bus service. Both Bapat and Mulik were detained by the police.
Girish Bapat sat in a van and agitated for the resumption of PMPML service. The police then took the leaders into custody.
“We are opposed to two or three things. The first thing is that PMPML should not remain shut. Senior citizens, patients, and workers will not be able to commute. A person living in Pune or who comes for work or any business to the city has no mode of transport now. Eventually, this will lead to a shutdown of the industries. So companies should be requested to start their vehicle service and provide transport for their workers or arrange a separate PMPML for them, checking their identity cards before letting them in the bus. The administration should provide a special bus service for workers,” Bapat said.
Bapat also opposed the closure of the restaurants and hotels.
Meanwhile, bars, hotels, and restaurants in Pune will be completely closed for dining for seven days but home delivery services will continue.
Only 20 people will be allowed at funerals. Other social events have been banned for a week. Only essential facilities will continue during the curfew. Only 50 people will be allowed during the wedding. All religious places, malls, theatres will remain closed during these seven days.
