Pune, 13th March 2021: A case of extortion and fraud has been registered against Bharatiya Janata Party’s Mumbai president, MLA Mangal Prabhat Lodha and his son at the Chatushrungi police station on Friday. A 53-year-old woman lawyer has lodged the complaint.

The complainant wanted to get a flat in Mumbai. She had decided to buy a flat in the housing project in Lodha Park in the Worli area of Mumbai through an acquaintance. Lodha’s office is at the Apollo Mill compound in the Mahalaxmi area of Mumbai. The value of the flat in the housing project to be sold to the complainant woman was fixed at Rs 5.59 crore.

Since 2013, the complainant paid Rs 3.92 crore to Lodha from time to time. However, in the last nine years, the woman has not got possession of the flat. So the woman decided to cancel the flat purchase transaction. The complainant woman was then allegedly threatened by Lodha.

The woman had filed a criminal complaint at Pune District and Sessions Court seeking an order to police to file a case in this regard. After verifying the facts, the court ordered Pune police to register FIR against the owner of Jwala Real Estate Pvt. Ltd. Mangal Prabhat Lodha and his son Abhishek and Surendran Nair and two others.

A spokesperson of the company said, “The complainant is a defaulter who has not made payment of her dues for many years and has thereafter refused to pay applicable interest as per RERA. We have filed a case against her in RERA for default and cancellation more than 12 months ago. Last year, she had filed the same case in the relevant police station in Mumbai and due to no evidence found to support the complainant’s unsubstantial claims the case was closed, proving the company had not committed any wrong. It appears that she has not disclosed aforesaid information to obtain this new order which, in any event, only says that Police should look into the matter – we will file an appeal against this illegally obtained order soon.”
