Pune BJP Opens Account Ahead of PMC Polls; Two Corporators Elected Unopposed from Ward 35
Pune, 2nd January 2026: Even before the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections formally begin, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has opened its account in the city, with two of its candidates being elected unopposed on the last day for withdrawal of nominations on Tuesday.
From Ward No. 35 (Sun City–Manik Baug), BJP candidates Manjusha Nagpure and Shrikant Jagtap were declared elected unopposed after all their rival candidates withdrew their nominations. The development comes as nomination withdrawals concluded across Pune ahead of the PMC elections.
Following their unopposed election, Nagpure and Jagtap were felicitated by Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, and BJP Pune city president Dheeraj Ghate.
In Ward No. 35, Shrikant Jagtap was facing a candidate from the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction) along with six independent candidates, while Manjusha Nagpure was up against a candidate from the Nationalist Congress Party and two independents. All these candidates withdrew their nominations on Tuesday, paving the way for the BJP duo’s unopposed victory.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol thanked the citizens of Pune, stating that Puneites have consistently shown trust in the BJP. He expressed confidence that the BJP would secure the mayor’s post in the PMC. Mohol said the opposition withdrew after realising the public mood was in favour of the BJP. He added that with two corporators already elected unopposed, the party has taken the first step towards its target of winning 125 seats in the civic body, and expressed confidence that a similar mandate would be reflected on polling day.
BJP city president Dheeraj Ghate said the unopposed election of two candidates clearly indicates the public sentiment in Pune. He added that the development has boosted the morale of party workers and created enthusiasm among citizens ahead of the PMC elections.
