Pune: Bomb-Like Object Found In Indapur Taluka; Destroyed By BDDS
Indapur, 16th February 2023: A bomb-like object found in Chavanwasti in Tannu village, taluka Indapur, was detonated by Pune City and Rural Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS). There was fear in the area for about 30 hours.
On Monday (13th February) at 9 am, Aniket Mohite saw a bomb-like object near Gavani in the cowshed near Dattatray Tulshiram Mohite’s house. He picked the said object and took pictures with it.
Aniket then threw the item out of the cowshed. Aniket’s mother took the said item and kept it in the bed in the house. Meanwhile, when Aniket called his army friend regarding the object, he could not rule out the possibility that it was a detonator.
So he was asked to take the object out of the house and bury it in the field. After that, Aniket immediately informed the police about this. He then called the Pune Rural Bomb Squad for investigation. As their arrival was late at night, it was difficult to investigate and take further action in the dark, so the investigation was stopped.
The investigation started again at 9.30 am on Tuesday. Around 3.00 pm, another BDDS team from Pune reached the spot, and together, they detonated the object.
On Tuesday morning, the police system was alerted after the dog team also signalled that the object was a bomb. Meanwhile, Baramati Sub Divisional Police Officer Ganesh Ingle also visited the spot.
Indapur Tehsildar Shrikant Patil, Assistant Police Inspector Nagnath Patil, Anti-Terrorist Squad Officer Somnath Lande, Police Arif Chandsaheb Sayyid, Vikas Rakhunde, Surendra Wagh, Virbhadra Mohle, Sachin Borade, Rakesh Phalke, Samadhan Keskar, Vinod Kale, Shubhangi Khandagale, etc were present at the scene.
Indapur Police Inspector Dilip Pawar informed, “The bomb-like object in Mohite’s farm turned out to be explosive. It was taken to a safe place and destroyed by detonating it. The remains after the explosion have been taken into custody and sent for investigation.”
Although the bomb-like object has been defused, many questions remain unanswered. Indapur police are investigating how the relevant item came to this place. Was it a bomb or something else? Did it contain alcohol?
Ujani dam is in Indapur taluka. Also nearby is the legendary temple of Shri Lakshmi Narasinha at the confluence of the Neera and Bhima rivers. The discovery of bomb-like objects in the said place is a matter of concern. It will be important to see what comes out of the police investigation.
