Pune: Book on Biodiversity of Aditi Garden Launched at Magarpatta City

Pune, 1st June 2026: A richly illustrated book titled “Exploring the Flora & Fauna of Aditi Garden, Magarpatta City” was launched on Sunday at the Amphitheatre of Aditi Garden in Magarpatta City in the presence of distinguished guests, environmentalists, residents and nature enthusiasts.
The book, authored by Vijaya Chakravarty and Maj Gen Neville Rasquinha VSM (Retd), and designed by young creative talent Tanvi Kalase, documents the remarkable biodiversity thriving within Aditi Garden and highlights the ecological importance of preserving urban green spaces.
The event was hosted by Satish Magar, CMD of Magarpatta City, and presided over by Chief Guest Gen Manoj Pande, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC (Retd), former Chief of Army Staff. Renowned surgeon and ecologist Dr. Erach Bharucha attended as the Guest of Honour.
Bringing together years of observation, research and photography, the book showcases nearly 100 tree species, 80 bird species, 70 butterfly species, along with several insects, amphibians and reptiles found within the garden ecosystem. The publication also includes contributions from a team of illustrators and photographers whose visuals vividly narrate the story of Aditi Garden.
The book combines science, culture and storytelling in a simple and engaging format. Readers can learn about the historical and ecological significance of plants such as Ixora, Kanchan, Parijat and Amaltas, while also discovering fascinating details about butterflies, reptiles and birds commonly seen in the garden.
Special sections such as “How to Read” and “Did You Know” pages, along with creative captions throughout the book, have been included to make biodiversity learning interactive and enjoyable for citizens, students and nature lovers.
Speaking at the launch, Satish Magar said, “When people experience nature firsthand, they develop a deeper emotional connection with the environment and with one another.”
Chief Guest Gen Manoj Pande appreciated the unique concept of the publication and said the book successfully combined natural history, culture and learning, making every visit to the garden “a journey of discovery.”
Dr. Erach Bharucha described Aditi Garden as “a model for future wellbeing and spiritual value that nature bestows on us 24/7,” while stressing the need to preserve biodiversity rich urban spaces for future generations.
The launch event also featured live sketches by artists, skits and dance performances by children, adding colour and enthusiasm to the celebration. A lively jingle based on the book’s mascot, “Madhu the explorer bee,” entertained the audience and received an enthusiastic response.
Visitors also explored curated displays featuring excerpts and photographs from the book, while a specially designed selfie stand became a popular attraction. A feedback tree with stick-on notes encouraged attendees to share their thoughts and experiences about the initiative.
The publication reflects the collective efforts of authors, advisors, photographers, designers and contributors who collaborated to create an informative and visually engaging tribute to urban biodiversity and environmental awareness.
