Two Bridges Near Panshet, Khadakwasla Shut Over Safety Concerns Ahead of Monsoon
Pune, 1st June 2026: Ahead of the monsoon, the Pune district administration has closed two bridges in the Panshet-Khadakwasla region after they were found to be structurally unsafe, and diverted traffic through alternative routes ahead of the monsoon season.
The decision was taken as a safety measure, particularly after a major bridge collapse accident reported at Kund Mala last year which claimed four lives and several others were injured.
The first bridge, located near Panshet Colony on the Khanapur-Panshet road in Rajgad taluka, has been closed to all light and heavy vehicles after a technical assessment found the 68-year-old structure to be in a highly vulnerable condition. Officials cited the risk of accidents due to increased discharge into the Mutha river during the monsoon.
In a separate order, the administration permanently shut the bridge over the Mutha river on the Katwadi-Kondhur-Nilkantheshwar route in Haveli taluka after it was declared unsafe for vehicular movement.
Zila Parishad CEO Gajanan Patil, who is currently holding an additional charge of district collector issued both orders under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Traffic on the affected stretches has been diverted through designated alternative routes, while authorities have been directed to install barricades and ensure commuter safety.
The administration has appealed to motorists to follow the diversion routes and cooperate with traffic management measures during the monsoon period.
