Thergaon, 26th June 2025: In a gruesome act of violence, a 30-year-old bouncer, Rahul Kanghare, was attacked and had his left hand severed at the wrist by three men in the Thergaon area of Pimpri Chinchwad during the early hours of Monday. The incident, reportedly rooted in a longstanding family dispute, has sparked outrage after the suspects were granted bail by a local court.
Rahul also sustained a severe cut to his right palm while trying to defend himself during the assault. The Wakad police have registered a case of attempted murder against the accused—identified as Rohan Nimaj (30), Shubham Pawar (20), and Prashant Sakat (22), all residents of Thergaon—and initially arrested them. However, they were released on Tuesday after the court cited insufficient grounds for their custody.

The release has triggered protests from the victim’s family and local residents, who gathered outside the Wakad police station on Thursday demanding the immediate re-arrest of the trio.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-II) Vishal Gaikwad told reporters, “We are taking this matter very seriously. The suspects will be taken back into custody. We are gathering additional evidence to present a stronger case before the court and seek custodial remand.”

Mother Recounts Horrific Attack
Lalita Kanghare, mother of the victim, expressed deep anguish at the suspects’ release. “My son is lying in a hospital bed, fighting for his life, while those responsible are walking free. How is this justice?” she said.

Recalling the events of Monday morning, she said Nimaj had called Rahul alleging that her brother (Rahul’s maternal uncle) had insulted him. “My son and I decided to speak with my brother to understand what had happened,” Lalita said.

As they were on their way, the three accused reportedly intercepted Rahul and offered to give him a ride. “They picked him up on their motorcycle, and I followed on foot. A few minutes later, I saw them assaulting him with sharp weapons not far from my brother’s house,” she added.

According to Lalita, two of the attackers struck Rahul on the head, prompting him to raise his hands in self-defence. “That’s when they slashed his left hand off. His right hand was also badly injured,” she said. “They threatened nearby residents and fled the scene.”

Rahul, who had recently begun working as a bouncer, underwent emergency surgery on Thursday and is expected to undergo further operations. “He has a young daughter and wife. His life was just getting on track,” his mother said, breaking down.

Pattern of Violence
This incident follows another violent case reported earlier this month in Hinjewadi, where a man from Yavatmal allegedly stabbed two brothers in Gaware Vasti. That attack was reportedly linked to the accused’s relationship with the victims’ aunt.
