Pune Braces For Heavy Rainfall: IMD Issues Yellow Alert For Ghat Areas
Pune, 24th June 2023: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Pune has issued a warning of heavy rainfall for the city and its surrounding areas.
Anupam Kashyapi, the head of weather forecasting at IMD Pune, has stated that the rain has been steadily increasing over the past nine hours and is expected to continue. As a result, the forecast for today has been upgraded to overcast conditions with light to moderate rainfall in isolated areas.
Kashyapi has also issued a yellow alert for the adjacent ghat areas, cautioning residents to be vigilant and prepared for the next 5-6 days. The warning advises people to exercise caution while traveling on the roads, as the impact of the rainfall may lead to reduced visibility and slippery conditions. Drivers are urged to move slowly and be mindful of potholes that may have formed due to the heavy downpour.
The IMD has advised against venturing into the adjacent ghat areas in the coming days, as these regions are expected to experience isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall. Additionally, moderately strong winds, with speeds ranging from 30-35 kmph, are forecasted in the ghat areas.
Citizens are urged to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and heed the impact-based warnings and advisories. While enjoying the monsoon season, it is essential to prioritize safety and take necessary precautions during adverse weather conditions.
