Pune Braces for Rain This Week as IMD Issues Yellow Alert

Pune, 9th June 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a shift in Pune’s weather, predicting light rain and thunderstorms over the coming week. A yellow alert has been issued for the Pune district, signalling likely rainfall activity and lightning across isolated areas.
Though most parts of the city remained dry on Sunday, including key locations like Shivajinagar, Lohgaon, NDA, Pashan, and Chinchwad, a light drizzle of 0.5 mm was recorded in Koregaon Park, offering a hint of the changing weather pattern.
The IMD’s regional forecast indicates that Pune is not alone — multiple districts in Maharashtra are on alert. “Yellow warnings are in place for Monday across districts including Ahilyanagar, Satara, Kolhapur, Sangli, Solapur, Beed, Nanded, Latur, and Dharashiv,” an IMD official confirmed. Coastal districts Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg have also been included under the advisory.
The forecast suggests that parts of Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada may witness moderate showers with lightning and gusty winds. “Conditions are turning favourable for an uptick in rainfall intensity, especially along the west coast and in peninsular regions,” the weather office noted.
From June 10 onwards, the IMD expects a significant rise in rainfall activity over southern and coastal India, with the possibility of heavy to very heavy showers across Karnataka and Kerala by June 13.
Meanwhile, the catchment zones feeding Pune’s water supply — Khadakwasla, Varasgaon, Temghar, and Panshet dams — recorded light rainfall on Sunday. The combined water storage across these reservoirs has reached 5.46 TMC, reflecting a healthier reserve compared to last year’s 4.25 TMC on the same date.
