Pune: Brake Mishap Claims Bus Cleaner’s Life; Driver Faces Charges

Pune, 22nd March 2025: In a tragic incident on Ganeshkhind Road, a bus cleaner lost his life after falling from the top of a moving bus. The accident occurred early Friday morning (March 21) while the bus was traveling from Mumbai to Hyderabad. The Chatushrungi police have arrested the bus driver in connection with the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Sanket Devidas Chailwal (29, resident of Masod, Amravati District), while the driver has been named as Bablu Hamidmiya Maktewale (33). According to the police, Sanket fell from the bus after the driver suddenly applied the brakes. Police personnel Vikas Ingle has filed a complaint at Chatushrungi Police Station.

According to police reports, the passenger bus was traveling on Ganeshkhind Road around 4:15 AM on Friday when it approached the Vaikunthbhai Mehta Institute. An overhead wire was hanging close to the bus’s roof. The driver asked Sanket to climb onto the roof to remove the wire. However, while trying to maneuver the bus away from the obstruction, the driver applied the brakes suddenly, causing Sanket to lose his balance and fall. He suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries before receiving treatment.

The police investigation confirmed that the driver’s abrupt braking led to the fatal accident. Consequently, the driver has been arrested, and further investigations are being conducted under the supervision of Police Sub-Inspector Shamal Patil.
