Pune, 22nd March 2025: Cybercriminals have cheated two Pune residents of ₹52 lakh by luring them with false promises of high returns on stock market investments. The fraud took place in two separate incidents, with one victim losing ₹38.64 lakh and another being defrauded of ₹13.28 lakh.

A 52-year-old man from the Tingrenagar area in Vishrantwadi was tricked into investing ₹38.64 lakh after receiving a message on his mobile in December last year. The scammers initially returned a small profit to gain his trust. Encouraged by the initial returns, he invested more money in a platform named “Mahibhanara.” However, after transferring the funds, the fraudsters disappeared, switched off their mobile numbers, and stopped responding.

After realizing he had been cheated, the victim lodged a complaint at the Vishrantwadi police station. A case has been registered against the cybercriminals, and Crime Branch Police Inspector Mangesh Hande is investigating the matter.

In a similar incident, a woman from Katraj was duped of ₹13.28 lakh by cyber fraudsters under the pretense of stock market investments. She received a message promising high returns and transferred the money to the fraudsters’ account. However, after the transaction, the scammers stopped communicating and failed to return the funds.

A complaint has been registered at Ambegaon Police Station, and Senior Police Inspector Sharad Jhin is investigating the case.
