Vadgaonsheri, 27th March 2023: After an incident in February where a pack of stray dogs attacked a six-year-old child in Bramha Suncity Society, leading to the removal of up to 50 strays from the area, the dogs will be reintroduced next week. The release will be carried out with police protection, as residents had complained about the danger posed by the strays following the attack.

While the four dogs involved in the attack will be monitored for a few more days, the rest of the strays will be reintroduced to the society grounds. The child sustained severe injuries during the attack and had to receive treatment at a private hospital.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had impounded the strays from the society following the incident. According to PMC officials, the society’s residents have long expressed concern about the danger posed by stray dogs, and the local authorities have set up an animal welfare committee to address the issue.

The committee will investigate the complaints of man-animal interactions in the community and decide on the feeding areas for the neighbourhood dogs within the society. The committee will also address similar complaints in the future.

The incident sparked tension between animal lovers and residents, with some residents complaining about the feeders who attract strays to the area. The committee’s establishment is expected to provide a forum for resolving such disputes in the future.
