Pune Bribery Case: Doctor Arrested For Demanding Rs 60,000 For Disability Certificate

Pune, 6th April 2023: A doctor from Sassoon Hospital was caught red-handed by the anti-corruption team for demanding a bribe of Rs 60,000 to provide a disability certificate.

The accused, Dr Pawan Bhila Shirsath, a 43-year-old physiotherapist from the Department of Orthopedics at B.J. Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital, Pune, was arrested and a case has been registered against him at Bundgarden Police Station.

According to ACB, the complainant, who is a government employee, had applied for a disability certificate at Sassoon Hospital. Dr Shirsath demanded Rs 60,000 bribe for issuing the certificate. As the complainant refused to pay the bribe, he lodged a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Pune at Central Building.

After verifying the complaint, the ACB sleuths caught Dr Shirsath red-handed while accepting the bribe.

The case is being investigated by Police Inspector Praneta Sangolkar and her team under the guidance of Pune ACB SP Amol Tambe and Addl SP Suraj Gurav.
