Pune, 22nd May 2024: The Pune District and Sessions Court has remanded Vishal Agarwal, the father of a minor boy who killed two people by recklessly driving a Porsche car, to police custody until May 24.

On May 19, around 2:30 AM, a Porsche hit a two-wheeler from behind in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area, instantly killing IT engineers Ashwini Koshta (24) and Aneesh Awadhiya (24), both natives of Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. Vishal Agarwal was arrested for allowing his son to drive the car despite being underage and without a driving license.

During today’s hearing, the court reprimanded Agarwal for his negligence. Lawyer Asim Sarode, who has intervened on behalf of citizens, stated, “The father is the accused in this case. He did not play the role of a father properly. He allowed the car to be driven without a number plate and license. Sending a minor to a pub is not good parenting. According to the Juvenile Justice Act, neglecting your child indicates a lack of control. Hence, the court granted custody until the 24th.”

Along with Vishal Agarwal, Blak club’s Nitesh Shewani and manager Jayesh Gawkare have also been remanded in custody.

Sarode added, “It is an injustice that some people face no consequences for their actions. We argued in court that allowing a child to drive without a license is a failure of parental responsibility. Parents did not pay attention to the child. There are also legal issues, including the illegality of having two FIRs in this case. The discussion is ongoing, and the section of the Prohibition Act has not been enforced.”

Members of the Vande Mataram organization attempted to throw ink on Agarwal’s face. Police intervened, preventing the activists from carrying out their plan. The activists stood in front of the police vehicle and raised loud slogans, demanding the accused be charged under the MCOCA. They claimed, “This builder has many cases filed against him, and now his son has committed this heinous act.”
