Pune: Bus Accident in Tamhini Ghat Claims Two Lives, Injures 55
Tamhini Ghat, 30th December 2023: In a devastating incident, a travel bus overturned in the Tamhini Ghat area under the jurisdiction of the Mangaon Police Station in Raigad district around 7:30 am on Saturday. The Bus was going from Pune to Mangaon.
The accident resulted in the loss of two lives, while 55 individuals suffered injuries. Local authorities swiftly responded to the scene, ensuring the injured were promptly transported to the nearest hospital for medical attention.
The hilly terrain of Tamhini Ghat, known for its challenging road conditions, is under investigation as a potential contributing factor to the accident. Preliminary reports suggest that negotiating the difficult landscape may have played a role in the unfortunate incident.
The incident raises concerns about the safety of travel buses navigating through hilly and ghat regions, resonating with broader issues observed in Raigad district. In April 2023, the region witnessed a distressing incident when a bus, carrying 42 passengers, plunged into a 300-foot gorge near Khopoli town in Raigad. Tragically, 13 lives were lost, including five minors, and over 29 individuals sustained injuries. The incident occurred around 4 am, emphasizing the vulnerability of travel in challenging terrains situated 70 km from Mumbai.
