Camp, 25th November 2025: A major extortion case has surfaced in the city’s business circles after Kohinoor Hotel owner Ali Akbar Jafri accused local businessman Sameer Motilal Mujumdar of attempting to extort ₹18 crore by lodging fabricated complaints and reviving old property disputes.

As per the FIR registered with Lashkar Police, Jafri alleged that Mujumdar, who had earlier received financial support from him, began targeting him after the assistance ended. Mujumdar allegedly produced questionable Powers of Attorney and other documents to reopen decades-old civil matters, while simultaneously submitting complaints claiming that Jafri was living in India on forged papers.

Investigators have been told that Mujumdar allegedly threatened Jafri on multiple occasions, including through WhatsApp messages, and demanded large sums in return for withdrawing the complaints. Police have booked him on charges of extortion, criminal intimidation and forgery.
