Pune Cab, Auto Unions Threaten Agitation Over Fares, Bike Taxis
Pune, 10th October 2026: Cab and autorickshaw unions have threatened an agitation against alleged overcharging by app-based cab aggregators and Rapido’s bike taxi operations in Pune without Regional Transport Office (RTO) permission.
Keshav Kshirsagar, president of the Indian Gig Workers Front and Baghtoy Rickshawala union, alleged that Ola, Uber and Rapido continued to charge fares at their discretion despite the state government’s cab aggregator policy coming into effect in September. He also claimed Rapido continued to offer bike taxi services on its app without the required approval.
Kshirsagar said the union had raised the issue with Pune collector, who also heads the Regional Transport Authority (RTA). An RTA meeting scheduled for October 14 will discuss cab fares and bike taxi operations with RTO officials.
“We expect strict action. Otherwise, we will launch an intense protest that could disrupt public transport in the city,” he said.
