Pune Cantonment Increases Complete Shutdown for Three More Days

Pune, May 11, 2020: In view of the increasing number of COVID 19 positive cases in the Pune Cantonment area, it has been decided to observe 3 days complete lockdown in the Pune Cantonment area w.e.f. 12 to 14 May, informed Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) CEO Amit Kumar today. Earlier the complete shutdown was observed on May 9 and 10.

 

“In view of the exponential rise in COVID positive cases in the last few days, particularly in Bhimpura, New Modikhana area and nearby areas, the lockdown is required to be implemented stringently in the containment zone. The lockdown is being implemented in the containment zone and micro-containment zone to control further spread of the virus.

 

Only medical shops will be allowed to remain open from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm and 5.00 pm to 8.00 pm. The police department is required to ensure implementation of the same, while the general public is requested to follow total lockdown strictly”, states the notice issued by PCB which is the local municipal body for Camp, Fatimanagar, Ghorpadi areas.

 

Pune Cantonment, also known as Pune Camp, is a military cantonment located in Pune. It was established in 1817 for accommodating troops of the British Indian Army. The cantonment houses many military establishments. It is also known for its many shopping locations like MG Road and East Street. The headquarters of Indian Army’s Southern Command is located in Pune Cantonment. The National War Memorial Southern Command which commemorates the sacrifice of soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces is also situated in the cantonment.
