Pune: Car Falls Into 50-Feet Deep Gorge In Varandha Ghat, Passengers and Driver Unhurt
Pune 19th Oct 2023: A harrowing incident occurred on Wednesday on the route from Pune to Mahad, at the Varandha Ghat near Umbarde village. A car fell inside a 90-foot deep gorge yet miraculously, there were no casualties, as nobody was inside the vehicle at the time of incident.
According to the available information, the car was heading towards Mahad from Pune via the Varandha Ghat route. The driver noticed smoke coming from the car’s engine after which he halted in the ghat area and parked the car. All the passengers travelling in the car deboarded. However, the car was parked on the slope and it started moving towards the gorge and at last fell 90-feet deep.
The officials at Bhore Police Station have not received any official detail on the matter as the police have not received any official complaint. The incident has raised concerns among commuters, with many questioning the lack of protective barriers at various points along the Varandha Ghat road as many such accidents have been reported on this stretch in the past. Despite repeated instances of vehicles dangerously hanging over the cliff, no concrete measures have been taken by the authorities, leaving commuters frustrated and expressing their discontent.
