Pune: Case Registered Against Four for Assaulting PMC Officials on FC Road

Shivajinagar, 7th January 2025: Deccan Police have registered a case against four individuals, including a woman, for allegedly assaulting officials during an anti-encroachment drive on Ferguson College Road (FC Road) in Shivajinagar, Pune. The incident occurred yesterday evening when the Encroachment Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) was taking action in the Goodluck Chowk area.
Sachin Ghenge, an employee of the PMC’s encroachment department, filed a complaint at the Deccan Police Station. According to police information, illegal structures had been erected on the footpath along FC Road, where hawkers were conducting business. Pedestrians had complained to the PMC about their inability to walk on the footpath due to these encroachments.
In response, the PMC’s encroachment department initiated action against illegal footpath traders and hawkers. However, some people and business owners have alleged that PMC officials are targeting specific vendors and shops while ignoring others.
During yesterday’s operation in the Goodluck Chowk area, four individuals, including a woman, reportedly pushed and verbally abused the encroachment department employees. As a result, a case has been registered against these four people for obstructing government work.
PMC has recently intensified its efforts to clear encroachments across the city, including areas like Congress Bhavan, NIBM Road, and several flyover bridges.
