Pune Celebrates Shivjayanti with Grand Procession and Cultural Displays

Pune, 19th February 2025: The Shivjayanti Mahotsav Committee of Pune organized a magnificent procession from Lal Mahal on Wednesday, marking the 13th year of this grand celebration. The event, which commemorates the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, began with the lighting of the Shivjyot on the Jijau Maasaheb Shahaji Maharaj Shivjyot chariot after garlanding the statue of Jijamata at Lal Mahal.

The procession featured a stunning display of 96 Swarajya chariots representing various Maratha sardars and mavlas, followed by the main Swarajya chariot. A highlight of the event was the performance by 51 Ranraginis from the Maharani Tararani Shaurya Pathak, who showcased traditional martial arts, captivating the audience with their skills.

Thousands of attendees, dressed in traditional attire, joined the procession, which was further enhanced by the rhythmic beats of dhol-tasha groups and the melodious tunes of sanai-chaughada instruments. The beautifully decorated chariots, including the main Jijau Maasaheb Shahaji Maharaj Shivjyot chariot, drew admiration from onlookers.

The event was inaugurated by prominent figures, including Satara MP and Shivaji Maharaj’s descendant Chhatrapati Udayanraje Bhosale, Union Minister of State for Cooperation and Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol, Shrimant Sanjivraje Naik Nimbalkar, and the committee’s founding president, Amit Gaikwad. The 51 Ranraginis of the Shaurya Pathak delivered a mesmerizing display of Shivaji-era warfare techniques, while the Nadbrahma Dhol Tasha Pathak’s energetic performance enhanced the festive atmosphere.

Speaking at the event, Chhatrapati Udayanraje Bhosale emphasized Shivaji Maharaj’s enduring legacy of unity. He noted that the Shiv Jayanti celebrations in Pune bring together people from all castes and religions, serving as a reminder of the great Maratha king and his loyal sardars and mavlas.
