Chakan, 12th February 2025: In a shocking turn of events that proves “blood is thicker than water, but betrayal is thicker than blood,” Pimpri Chinchwad Police have solved the mysterious shooting of an industry owner in Chakan MIDC, revealing a tale of familial betrayal. The victim’s cousin, initially thought to be an unlikely suspect, has been arrested for orchestrating the attack over a ₹12 lakh contract dispute.

Ajay Vikram Singh (35), a resident of Hinjawadi, was shot in broad daylight on 20th January at Kailas Steel Company premises in Chakan MIDC. After a 20-day investigation, what was initially suspected to be an extortion attempt has been uncovered as a family feud gone violent.

Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey announced the arrest of Sangram aka Chandan Anant Singh (42), the victim’s cousin, from Madhya Pradesh. Another accused, Rohit Sudhan Pandey (23), from Uttar Pradesh, has also been apprehended. The Anti-Gunda Squad, leading the investigation, revealed that a total of five individuals were involved in the crime.

The investigation uncovered that the accused had conducted an 11-day recce of Ajay Singh’s daily routine before executing the attack. They purchased two-wheelers and meticulously observed the victim’s movements. After the shooting, the assailants fled to Visakhapatnam and then to Uttar Pradesh.

In a twist worthy of a crime thriller, Sangram visited his cousin in the hospital after the attack, attempting to deceive the police before absconding. Despite Ajay Singh’s initial disbelief in his cousin’s involvement, police evidence proved otherwise.

The case, registered at Mahalunge MIDC Police Station, is under further investigation by Pimpri Chinchwad Police. This incident serves as a grim reminder that sometimes, the greatest threats can come from those closest to us.

This operation was conducted under the guidance of CP Vinoy Kumar Choubey, Joint Commissioner of Police Dr Shashikant Mahavarkar, Additional Commissioner of Police Vasant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Doiphode, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime 1) Dr Vishal Hire.

The Anti-Gunda Squad, led by Assistant Police Inspector Harish Mane, included Police Sub-Inspector Ashok Jagtap, Assistant Sub-Inspectors PP Tapkir, SN Thokal, VH Jagdale, and AP Gaikwad, along with Police Constables JD Chavan, SD Chaudhary, VT Gambhire, GS Medage, SP Baba, NB Gengje, VD Telewar, VN Velapure, RK Mohite, ST Kadam, and TE Shaikh.
