Pune: Chaos at Bank Exam Centres as Server Malfunction Leads to Cancellation

Pune, 21st December 2024: The exam for 261 clerks and 97 peon posts of the Chandrapur District Central Co-Operative Bank was scheduled to be held over three days, starting today, at centres in nine districts across Maharashtra. Around 31,000 candidates had applied for these positions. However, on the first day of the exam, chaos erupted at the exam centres in Pune. The server unexpectedly went down, leading to the cancellation of the exam. As a result, many students became agitated.
The exam was to be conducted simultaneously at 40 centres across Maharashtra, including several in Pune. However, the server malfunctioned at multiple centres, including those in Pune. Company officials reported that despite numerous attempts, the server could not be restored, and the exam was eventually cancelled.
Many students, who had travelled from different districts of the state to Pune for the exam, expressed their frustration and dissatisfaction due to the inconvenience caused. Furthermore, there was significant criticism regarding the assignment of the exam to DCS Technologies Private Limited, a company based in Delhi.
The recruitment process for the Chandrapur District Central Co-Operative Bank has been mired in controversy for several years. During the assembly elections, the Cooperation Minister and the Chief Minister suspended the recruitment. However, the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court lifted the suspension, ruling that political interference would not be tolerated. Following the court’s decision, the exam was scheduled for December 21, 22, and 23.
There were also concerns raised about the locations of the exam centres. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chandrapur MLA Kishore Jorgewar had demanded that the exam centres be located within the Chandrapur district, as the recruitment was specifically for the Chandrapur District Bank. This request further fueled the controversy surrounding the exam.
