Pune: Chikhali-Moshi-Pimpri Chinchwad Housing Society Federation Warns of Agitation Against PCMC’s Water Disconnection Move
Pimpri, 12th December 2023: The Chikhali-Moshi-Pimpri Chinchwad Housing Society Federation has issued a stern warning to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) against its recent move to disconnect water taps for 41 housing societies whose Sewage Treatment Centres have been closed. The federation has denounced this action as incorrect and has threatened to launch a robust agitation if PCMC does not cease the disconnection campaign immediately.
President of the Chikhali-Moshi-Pimpri Chinchwad Housing Society Federation, Sanjivan Sangle, stated that the PCMC had initially served notices to 41 cooperative housing societies in Pimpri Chinchwad, instructing the disconnection of water taps due to the closure of their Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs). The federation had vehemently opposed this move, and correspondence was exchanged with PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh. Sangle highlighted the poor quality installation of sewage treatment centres by developers and the absence of consent from society members during the transfer of societies. The federation had requested a comprehensive investigation before any decision was made.
Despite these objections, the PCMC initiated a campaign to disconnect water taps for the 41 societies, prompting the federation to demand an immediate suspension of the campaign and a thorough investigation into all related matters. The federation has also called for action against developers and construction department officials responsible for inaccurately issuing construction completion certificates for these housing projects. The federation has urged the PCMC to allow time for discussion and warned of substantial agitation if their demands are not met.
In a statement, President Sanjivan Sangle emphasized the need for an inquiry into the developers and construction department officials, emphasizing that the federation will not permit any society to face water tap disconnection until their complaints are addressed. Sangle concluded by asserting that if the Corporation fails to halt the disconnection campaign arbitrarily, the federation will organize a significant movement against this decision.
