Pune: Children of Waste Pickers Shine in Class 12 Exams, Defying All Odds

Pune, 5th May 2025: In a heartening testament to resilience and determination, children of waste pickers affiliated with the Kagad Kach Patra Kashtakari Panchayat (KKPKP) have achieved remarkable success in the Class 12 board examinations, overcoming significant economic and social challenges.

Shruti Shivaji Jadhav, daughter of Shivaji Vitthal Jadhav, a waste picker working in Bhosalenagar, secured an impressive 82.17% in the Arts stream from Modern College. Shruti now aims to pursue a Master’s degree in Economics from the same institution and dreams of becoming an economics professor.

Meenakshi Padmakar Ingle, daughter of Rani Padmakar Ingle, scored 81% in the Commerce stream from Lonkar College, Mundhwa. Her academic achievement highlights the unwavering support of her family and her personal commitment to education.

Sakshi Tanaji Phadke, daughter of Sadhana Tanaji Phadke, earned 77.83% in the Commerce stream from S.P. College. Her performance stands as a powerful example of focus and perseverance in the face of adversity.

Sairaj Tatya Rao Sonawane, son of waste picker Sushila Sonawane, scored 73% in Commerce from Ness Wadia College. His success echoes the broader story of many students from marginalized communities who continue to rise against the odds.

These students, supported by KKPKP, have not only passed their exams but have also set a powerful example for others from underprivileged backgrounds.
