Pune, 5th May 2025: Traffic congestion in Pune may worsen in the coming weeks as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has received conditional permission from the traffic police to carry out road excavation work at 61 key locations across the city.

The proposed digging is part of the city’s ongoing surveillance upgrade, involving the installation of CCTV cameras, along with essential utility work by the water supply and sewerage departments. However, the traffic police have issued a clear directive: all excavation and related work must be completed by May 31, 2025. Failure to meet this deadline will invite legal action against the contractors responsible.

In addition, the PMC has been instructed to submit a detailed work schedule outlining start and end dates for each location. This is intended to facilitate coordination between departments and minimize traffic disruption. Civic officials have assured that the progress will be closely monitored and timelines will be strictly enforced.

While the infrastructure work is seen as necessary for enhancing public safety and utility services, the timing has raised concerns among commuters already dealing with frequent traffic bottlenecks. Authorities have appealed to citizens for patience and cooperation during this period.

City officials maintain that every effort will be made to complete the work within the stipulated timeframe and limit inconvenience to the public.
