Pune, 9th October 2021: The sleuths from the Maharashtra Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday night arrested Adv Sagar Maruti alias Rajabhau Suryawanshi, who is wanted in several cases.

He had been evading arrest for the last three years and the Bombay High Court had lashed the cops for not being able to nab him.

He has been arrested in a cheating case registered with Shivajinagar police station.

Acting on a tip-off, plainclothes policemen laid a trap at Renuka Mata Mandir in Shukrawar Peth on Friday night and caught him around 10 pm. His wife Sheetal Tejwani, Adv Priyanka Shelar, Adv Nivrutti Pansare were also booked in the case. Tejwani, Shelar and Pansare are out on bail. Suryawanshi’s anticipatory bail was rejected by the Bombay High Court. He had filed an affidavit that he would surrender. However, he did not do so. Hence, the court issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against him.

Later, the case was transferred to the CID from the Pune city police. The CID had applied to the court to declare him an absconder and in August he was declared a proclaimed absconder.

According to CID, there are 11 cases registered against Suryavanshi including four at Pimpri police station, two cases at Shivajinagar police station, one each at Hinjawadi and Navghar police stations and others.

The action against Suryavanshi was taken under the guidance of CID chief Ritesh Kumar, IGP Makarand Ranade and SP Shrikant Dhivre.
