Pune, 1st January 2025: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Pune has begun investigating the involvement of Walmik Karad, a member of the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), in the kidnapping and murder of Massajog Sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh. After 20 days, Karad surrendered at the Pune CID office yesterday, and today marked the first day of his interrogation, which took place in a closed room.

The District and Sessions Court in Pune granted Karad 14 days of CID custody. When asked in court if he had any complaints against the Maharashtra Police administration, Karad quickly replied, “No.” Following his custody, his interrogation revealed some new information.

After the custody was granted, Karad’s health reportedly deteriorated following dinner yesterday. He struggled to eat and, due to his diabetes, required adequate nourishment. He also reported breathing difficulties, and sources mentioned that temporary oxygen support was provided. A team of doctors reportedly examined him late last night.

Media reports suggest that Karad claimed to have been in Nagpur for the past 22 days before surrendering to authorities, having initially been in Pune. Interestingly, the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly’s Winter Session was being held in Nagpur during that period, leading to speculation that Karad may have attempted to meet with key politicians to exert pressure on his case.
