Pune, 16th April 2024: Pune City and Pimpri-Chinchwad, along with other parts of Pune District, experienced their first rainfall of 2024 as forecasted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) around 4 pm today. The rain provided relief from the intense heatwave that had been lingering in the region, with temperatures previously exceeding 40 degrees Celsius.

IMD issued a weather warning at 5 p.m. today, Tuesday, 16th April. It indicated that isolated places in the districts of Pune, Satara, Aurangabad, Jalna, Jalgaon, Nashik, Beed, Hingoli, and Ahmednagar could experience thunderstorms with lightning and light spells of rain, accompanied by strong, gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h over the next 2-3 hours. The department advised residents to take precautions while going outdoors.

While the rainfall brought much-needed relief to the citizens in Pune District, it also caused disruptions in some areas due to waterlogging. Many residents expressed frustration towards the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) over the lack of preparedness for managing the downpour, resulting in clogged streets and inconvenience for commuters.
