Pune City Police Launch AI-Driven ‘Trafficure’ System to Tackle Traffic Jams
Reported by Mubarak Ansari
Pune, 23rd February 2026: In a major technological leap to resolve the city’s persistent traffic woes, the Pune City Traffic Police has launched a state-of-the-art software named ‘Trafficure’. Developed in a joint collaboration between the Pune City Traffic Department, Google Maps, and Lepton India, the system aims to provide real-time, data-driven traffic management.
Real-Time Alerts and Smart Monitoring
The ‘Trafficure’ software is designed to provide real-time updates on traffic jams and vehicular slow-downs across major intersections and internal roads.
A standout feature of the software is its independent alert system. The moment a traffic bottleneck begins to form, the system triggers an alert, allowing traffic police personnel to reach the exact location immediately and clear the congestion. Additionally, the software tracks the average speed of vehicles across the city and compiles specific reasons for traffic disruptions.
City Divided into 550+ Sections for Micro-Management
To ensure precise monitoring, major roads across Pune have been virtually divided into more than 550 distinct sections. This granular approach allows the traffic department to monitor and analyze the situation on a block-by-block basis.
During a 45-day pilot testing phase conducted between January and February 2026, the software recorded an average vehicular speed of 26.8 km/hour across the city. By analyzing historical data and identifying the root causes of congestion in specific sectors, authorities aim to significantly improve this average speed.
Leadership and Implementation
According to Manoj Patil (Additional Commissioner of Police, East Region), the integration of this software will drastically reduce the frequency of traffic jams, ultimately saving commuting time for citizens and ensuring smoother, faster vehicular movement.
A comprehensive presentation of the ‘Trafficure’ initiative was delivered today at the Syndicate Hall, Pune Police Commissionerate. The system was reviewed by Pune City’s top brass, including:
Amitesh Kumar (Commissioner of Police, Pune City)
Ranjankumar Sharma (Joint Commissioner of Police)
DCP (Traffic Branch) Himmat Jadhav expressed optimism that this innovative step will provide Pune residents with a highly accessible, safe, and efficient traffic network in the near future.
