Pune City Police rescues businessman kidnapped for a ransom of Rs two crores

Pune, November 15, 2019: After a six-hour-long operation, the Pune city police safely rescued a 65-year-old businessman who was kidnapped for a ransom of Rs two crores. Police have also seized Rs 1.5 crore cash, a Fortuner, a two-wheeler, from the kidnappers.

The arrested accused persons are Sujit Kiran Gujar (24), Omkar Srinath Walhekar (20) and Amit Jagtap, all residents of Uruli Devachi. However, the mastermind behind the kidnapping, Ajay Balasaheb Sable of Uruli Devachi, is yet to be arrested.

Joint Commissioner of Police Dr Ravindra Shiswe during a press conference on Friday said that the businessman was kidnapped around 9.45 pm on Thursday when he was going home after closing shop at the Market yard. The businessman was on a bike and the kidnappers took him away in a car. A passerby called the police control room to inform about the kidnapping.

“The kidnappers called his son and demanded Rs two crores else threatened to kill his father. The local police station and Crime Branch teams were divided into different squads who laid a trap to nab the kidnappers. The son of the businessman went to Chandani Chowk as per the direction of the accused and dropped bag containing Rs 1.5 crore cash. Later they released the businessman and our teams nabbed the accused persons. The teams were sent to Uruli Devachi and Wadkinalla villages and the Fortuner vehicle was seized along with Rs 1.47 crores”, Shiswe added.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ashok Morale, Additional Commissioner of Police (East region) Sunil Phulari, DCP (Zone 5) Suhas Bawche, and DCP (cybercrime) Sambhaji Kadam were also present during a press conference at Police Commissioner’s office on Friday evening.
