Pune City Premier League (CPL) 2024:- 7-A-Side football fiesta set to kick off today
Pune, 6th January 2023: Over three hundred and fifty players will be seen in action in the sixth edition of the City Premier League (CPL) 2024 Intra-Club 7-A-Side football tournament at the City Sports Arena, Moshi, which will commence on Monday, January 8.
This year City FC Pune will be also celebrating its silver jubilee year having established itself back in 1999 at Ahmednagar before adding a base in Pune in 2009.
The tournament organized by the City F.C Pune, a football-club owned by Sports Foundation Pune, will be conducted across six-age groups; Under-7, Under-9, Under-11, Under-13, Under-15 and 17+ (Senior) years.
The format of the tournament will be ‘league-cum-knockout’, with each age-group comprising four teams each and importantly teams playing three matches compulsorily. The Under-13 section will be played among eight teams on a single-leg all play all basis.
The unique feature of the tournament is that matches will be held over four weekends (Saturday and Sunday only), which includes the inauguration (beginning Sunday) and finals that have been scheduled for January 26.
A total of seven match-days namely, January 8th, 13th, 14th, 19th, 20st, while the finals will be held on 26th and 27th have been earmarked for the tournament.
“The idea behind playing on weekends is to ensure a full quorum and a balance between school and the tournament-proper. Moreover, to ensure every child in the academy plays his part in the formative years via a competitive environment,” informed Shashank Karnik, Founder and President, Sports Foundation Pune.
The tournament will be declared open on Sunday by Dr. Shivaji Pawar, Deputy Commissioner of Police Pimpri-Chinchwad.
