Hinjawadi, 29th December 2023: In a startling turn of events, the monthly meeting of the Gram Panchayat in Hinjawadi witnessed a heated clash among members, centred around the contentious issue of the transfer of a local gymnasium. The altercation escalated to physical violence, resulting in a case being filed against eight individuals, including a Gram Panchayat member.

The incident unfolded on Thursday (28th) at the Hinjawadi Gram Panchayat Office, where members gathered for their routine monthly meeting. Tensions flared as the transfer of a gymnasium, a topic on the meeting agenda, ignited a dispute among the members.

Vishal Laxman Sakhre (44) lodged a formal complaint at the Hinjawadi Police Station, detailing the sequence of events that transpired during the meeting. The case has been registered against Gram Panchayat members Mayur Rajendra Sakhre, Omkar Ramdas Memane, Suraj Shivaji Sakhre, Ram Narayan Sakhre, Sumit Pandurang Sakhre, and Rohit Krishna Jambhulkar, all residents of Hinjawadi.

The primary cause of the clash was the proposed transfer of a gymnasium affiliated with the Gram Panchayat. The gymnasium, reportedly managed by Mayur Sakhre’s brother, became a focal point of contention as he vehemently opposed its transfer to the Gram Panchayat. This disagreement escalated, leading to verbal abuse and threats against the complainant, Vishal Laxman Sakhre.

Subsequently, Mayur Sakhre, along with seven accomplices, reportedly assaulted Vishal Laxman Sakhre physically. The situation became more intense, prompting intervention by other Gram Panchayat members to quell the dispute. However, the accused allegedly continued their threats, creating an atmosphere of fear and intimidation.

The Hinjawadi police promptly registered a case based on Vishal Laxman Sakhre’s complaint. However, as of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. The police are investigating the matter further.
