Pune: Clashes Between ABVP and SFI Activists At Pune University Lead To Registration Of FIRs
Pune, 4th November 2023: In the aftermath of a confrontation between activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Student Federation of India (SFI) at Pune University on Wednesday afternoon, two separate cases have been registered at the Chaturshringi Police Station. Both the ABVP and SFI organizations have filed conflicting complaints related to the incident.
A total of twelve individuals, including three females, have been named in these cases, with charges filed under sections about physical assault, intimidation, and the creation of a riot-like situation.
The first case was filed by Mahadev Sangappa Ranga, representing ABVP, and it targets SFI President Somnath Govind Nirmal, along with individuals Akshay Govind Nirmal, Abhishek Maruti Shinde, Ganesh Balu Jankar, and Asmita Dhoware.
On the other hand, a case was registered against seven ABVP activists based on a complaint lodged by Student Federation of India president Somnath Govind Nirmal. The accused in this case are Mahadev Sangappa Ranga, Anand Sukhdev Fusner, Harshvardhan Harpude, Anil Thombare, Ankita Pawar, Shreya Sanjay Chandan, and Siddesh Nageshwar Lad.
The altercation occurred in the vicinity of the old Aniket Canteen within the Pune University premises. Sub-inspector Gadekar is currently overseeing the ongoing investigation into the incident.
