Shivajinagar, 8th November 2025: The Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNVS) on Friday staged a protest at COEP Technological University, highlighting severe lapses in cleanliness, water supply, and basic amenities at the girls’ hostel. The agitating students symbolically presented a ‘cockroach platter’ to the hostel chief, alleging that cockroaches, flies, and even stapler pins were found in the food served at the hostel mess.

The protest, led by MNVS city president Dhananjay Dalvi and divisional president Ketan Dongre, saw participation from activists Sachin Pawar, Rupesh Gholap, Abhishek Thite, Vikrant Bhilare, Ashutosh Mane, Santosh Vare, Ashok Pawar, Nilesh Jori, and Hemant Bolge.

Speaking to reporters, Dalvi said, “The mess in the girls’ hostel is extremely unhygienic. Cockroaches and foul smells are common, and food management is handled carelessly. Despite several complaints by students about health issues, the administration has not taken any action.”

He further pointed out that several long-standing issues — including irregular water supply, unclean bathrooms, broken doors and windows, frequent lift breakdowns, and poor WiFi and mobile connectivity — remain unresolved. “The university had promised 24-hour water and electricity supply along with WiFi facilities, but nothing has been implemented,” Dalvi added.

The MNVS submitted a list of demands to the university administration, including immediate cleaning and maintenance of the hostel and mess, uninterrupted water and power supply, appointment of a permanent hostel manager, a 24-hour grievance redressal mechanism, and disciplinary action against negligent officials, wardens, and mess contractors. The organisation warned of an intensified agitation if swift action is not taken.

In response, COEP University Registrar Dr. D. N. Sonawane said the administration has taken serious note of the students’ grievances. “A committee of professors has been appointed to investigate the complaints. Appropriate action will be taken based on the committee’s report to ensure all necessary facilities are provided,” Dr. Sonawane stated.
