Pune, 14th October 2026: The Pune district administration has banned the transportation and sale of all types of green and dry fodder outside the district and to other states to ensure adequate supplies for livestock amid drought concerns in eight talukas.

The prohibitory order, issued by district collector and District Disaster Management Authority chairman Jitendra Dudi on Wednesday, covers Bhor, Velhe, Khed, Shirur, Baramati, Indapur, Daund and Purandar.

The ban applies to all types of green and dry fodder, including kadba, chopped fodder and straw. However, transportation authorised under government schemes or approved by the animal husbandry department or district administration has been exempted.

The administration said the decision was taken to ensure the availability of fodder for livestock during the 2026 kharif season. There are concerns that fodder produced in Pune district could be transported in large quantities to other districts and neighbouring states for sale, potentially leading to shortages locally and threatening the survival of livestock.

The administration also cited the possibility of law-and-order problems arising from a potential fodder shortage while issuing the preventive order.

Those violating the order will face legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which deals with disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant.

The ban has come into immediate effect and will remain in force until further orders.
