Pune, 6th July 2026: In response to severe weather warnings and recent landslide incidents in hilly terrains, the Pune District Administration has officially declared a school holiday tomorrow, July 7, 2026, across seven high-risk talukas (tehsils).

The official order was issued on Monday afternoon, July 6, 2026, by Jitendra Dudi, Pune District Collector and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a high-priority Red Alert for Pune on July 6, warning of extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. Continuous torrential downpours have already caused multiple landslides in the ghat (mountainous) areas of Pune district.

To avert any potential tragedies and ensure the safety of students, an Orange Alert has been issued for July 7 for the landslide-prone areas. Collector Dudi urged residents to prioritize safety, stating, “Citizens must exercise extreme caution and venture out of their homes only if absolutely necessary.”

The holiday applies to all primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools in the following seven talukas:
Junnar
Ambegaon
Khed
Maval
Mulshi
Rajgad
Bhor

The directive is mandatory across all categories of educational institutions within these regions, including:
Zilla Parishad (ZP) schools
Municipal Council/Corporation schools
Government Ashram schools
Private aided and unaided schools
English medium schools
All Anganwadis (pre-schools)

While students have been granted a holiday, the administration has made it clear that school staff are not exempt. All headmasters, teaching staff, and non-teaching employees must report to their respective schools during regular office hours. Under the Disaster Management Act, they are required to remain on standby and actively assist the local administration with emergency relief and disaster management operations as directed.

The Collector warned that the order must be implemented immediately and strictly by all concerned authorities.
