Pune: Collector Holds Review Meet on Chakan Roads, Traffic; Sets Aug 31 Deadline For Urgent Works
Pune, 28th August 2026: Pune district collector Jitendra Dudi on Friday directed authorities to remove encroachments obstructing traffic in Chakan, complete urgent road repair and cleaning works by August 31, and, if required, divert traffic round-the-clock to speed up infrastructure works.
Dudi also directed agencies to prepare an integrated plan covering roads, parking, drainage and traffic management in the industrial hub, while ensuring that spaces cleared of encroachments are immediately developed with roads, drainage or other infrastructure to prevent fresh encroachments.
The directions were issued during a high-level meeting at the district collector’s office to review road repairs, traffic congestion and infrastructure works in Chakan. MLA Babaji Kale, Pimpri-Chinchwad deputy commissioner of police Vikrant Deshmukh and officials from various departments attended the meeting.
Dudi directed officials to complete pothole filling, road repairs, work on road shoulders and removal of silt and garbage by August 31. A separate action plan should be prepared for the urgent works so that the next phase can begin from September 1, he said.
Dudi said continuous traffic on roads under repair affects both the speed and quality of the work. Authorities should therefore plan alternative routes in advance and, wherever necessary, divert traffic for 24 hours for a few days to complete the work quickly and reopen the road.
Departments were asked to stagger work and coordinate ongoing projects of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and other agencies to minimise disruption. Measures at major congestion points should be prioritised, he said.
To address parking issues, Dudi directed officials to prepare a clear map of available parking spaces and share it with industries, drivers and transporters. The map should clearly indicate which parking areas are available for vehicles associated with specific industries.
He also asked the transport department and transport associations to hold discussions on parking and traffic management. The movement and locations of autorickshaws, goods vehicles and other vehicles should be studied and incorporated into the traffic plan, he said.
Encroachments obstructing traffic were identified as one of the major causes of congestion in Chakan. Dudi directed authorities to prioritise their removal and ensure that the cleared spaces are immediately put to proper use.
He said roads, drainage systems or other required infrastructure should be developed at such locations to prevent fresh encroachments. Deficiencies and incomplete works related to natural drains and drainage systems should also be completed within a month, he directed.
Dudi called for a comprehensive survey of roads, drainage, parking and traffic management systems across Chakan. All deficiencies identified during the survey should be addressed through a time-bound action plan.
He also stressed the need for integrated planning by all agencies so that roads do not have to be repeatedly dug up for different works.
“Allow traffic to be diverted for the period required for road work and complete the work at full capacity. Complete the urgent works by August 31 and continue the subsequent works in a planned manner. After removing encroachments, immediately create the required infrastructure to ensure that the space is not encroached upon again,” Dudi said.
Residents of Chakan also raised various civic and traffic-related issues during the meeting. Dudi directed the concerned agencies to take prompt action on their grievances.
