Pune: College Student Brutally Assaulted, Forced to Apply Pain Balm on Private Parts in Hinjawadi

Hinjawadi, 29th January 2025: A shocking case has emerged in Pune’s Hinjawadi area where a college-going boy, in a drunken state, was forced to apply pain balm on his private parts and was brutally beaten. Pimpri Chinchwad Police have registered a case against three people in this regard and have detained them.

The involved parties are students at Sri Balaji University, Pune (SBUP) in Tathawade who are not native to the area, having come for educational purposes. This incident raises questions about what is happening in Pune, often referred to as the “Oxford of the East.”

A 20-year-old boy, a resident of Thergaon and a native of Buldhana, has filed a complaint with Hinjawadi Police Station. The police have arrested Shreyas Kawade (19, resident of Hinjawadi, native of Dharashiv), Lalit Madane (21, native of Dhule), and Ram Gambhire (35, resident of Hadapsar, native of Latur).

Charges against them include voluntarily causing hurt, intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace, and relevant sections of the Information Technology Act of 2000 for recording the video during the assault.

According to police reports, on 21st January, the complainant went to his classmate’s house where Lalit, Shreyas, and Ram ‘Bhaiyya’ were drinking. ‘Bhaiyya’ offered a cigarette to the complainant, which fell from his hands. After the complainant picked it up and placed it on a nearby ashtray, Ram Gambhire suddenly started hitting him all over the body with fists, kicks, and the kada on his hands, asking, “Are you copying me?”

The accused then forced the complainant to strip naked and apply Iodex Balm, a pain reliever that can cause irritation and be harmful to private parts. Lalit and Shreyas recorded the incident and shared it on social media and their friends’ WhatsApp group.

Ram ‘Bhaiyya’ allegedly told the complainant that he could do whatever he wanted, claiming he already had 53 cases registered against him and that nobody could do anything to him.

Senior Police Inspector Kanhaiya Thorat, in charge of Hinjawadi Police Station, is further investigating the matter.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2), Vishal Gaikwad, stated, “The complainant and the two boys study at the same college, while Gambhire is a cousin of one of the accused. The complainant was attacked, forced to apply Iodex balm on his private parts, and a video of the incident was recorded and shared on their WhatsApp group. We have arrested all the accused, and the investigation is ongoing.”
