Pune: Commercial Customer Fined Rs 19 Lakh for Electricity Theft in Pimpri-Chinchwad
Bhosari, 8th August 2025: Using modern technology, an industrialist in the Bhosari MIDC area was stealing electricity from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). Despite being a commercial customer, he had been doing this for two years. MSEDCL has fined him Rs 19.19 lakh.
Sources said that he was stealing electricity using a remote control device. He used several devices for this, all of which have been seized. MSEDCL officials are constantly working to curb illegal activities such as electricity theft. It was during one such operation that this theft was uncovered.
Reportedly, the person managed to steal 77,170 units of electricity, for which he was fined Rs 19,19,363. Rs 2.30 lakh worth of fine has been recovered as form of deposit.
