Pune: Commericial Establishments With Side, Front Margins To Be Taxed More
Pune, 22nd June 2023: The Municipal Taxation and Tax Collection Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) recently conducted inspections on 25 commercial properties in Narhe, Ambegaon Khurd, Ambegaon Budruk, Vadgaon Budruk, and Vadgaon Khurd. During the investigation, properties with rooftop additions, encroachments on side margins, and front margins were identified and subjected to revised taxation. Measures were also taken to recover outstanding dues.
Property tax serves as the primary financial source for the municipal corporation. The Taxation and Tax Collection Department is actively working to achieve the income targets outlined in the current fiscal year’s budget. Accordingly, a comprehensive inspection drive was carried out on Tuesday under the guidance of Ajit Deshmukh, the Head of the Taxation and Tax Collection Department. Several properties were found to have unauthorized constructions and violations, such as rooftop additions and encroachments on side margins and front margins. The department also initiated actions to address outstanding dues, resulting in the sealing of some properties.
The inspection focused on untaxed properties from establishments, including hotels with encroached side margins, unauthorized use of terraces, and unlicensed godowns, as well as industrial properties subject to taxation. In certain cases, triple property tax penalties were levied. Ajit Deshmukh stated that similar inspections would be carried out across the city in the coming days, with an intensified campaign targeting unauthorized constructions, uncollected property taxation, and the collection of outstanding dues.
