Pune: Committee Formed After Two Years For Fort Conservation

Pune, 1st December 2022: After two years, a committee has been appointed for the preservation and conservation of forts in Maharashtra. Departmental committees have also been constituted along with the state-level committee under the chairmanship of the culture minister.

 

The committee was formed in 2015 for the preservation and conservation of forts. In 2018, this committee was extended. After the transfer of power in the state in 2019, the appointments of non-governmental members to the committee were cancelled in 2020. After that, there was a constant demand to appoint a committee. Against this background, a new committee was appointed, and the government decision was released.

In the state-level committee, Sanjay Kelkar, Pandurang Balakawade, K. Ghanekar, Dr Pushkar Sohoni, Rishikesh Yadav, Dr Sachin Joshi, Atul Guru, Sanket Kulkarni, Sanket Takale, Mukund Gorakshakkar, along with Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Department of Cultural Affairs, Director of Archeology Department, are included. Five departmental committees were also appointed. The departmental committees include Dr G. S. Mahadik, Mridula Mane, Praveen Kadam, Praveen Bhosale in the Konkan division committee, Umesh Zirpe, Pandit Atiwadkar, Santosh Hasurkar, Shramik Gojamgunde, Bhagwan Chile in Pune division committee, Bandu Dhotre, Rahul Nalavde, Ashok Singh Thakur, Ashok Temzre in Nagpur division committee, Mahesh Tendulkar, Prashant Pardeshi, Ankur Kale, Rajendra Tipre in the Nashik Divisional Committee, and Rajesh Nelge, Dr Pramod Borade, Satish Akkalkot, Tejaswini Affle, Shailesh Varkhade in the Aurangabad-Nanded Divisional Committee.

 

The responsibilities include collecting comprehensive information about district-wise forts, assistance to the divisional office to prepare gazetteers, recommendation to the government regarding fort-wise preservation and conservation work, recommendations regarding the facilities that can be provided to the tourists as per the archaeological regulations while maintaining the sanctity of the fort, recommendations regarding employment growth for the locals in the fort area, urging entrepreneurs to adopt the fort, Social Responsibility for Care (CSR), guide organizations regarding the implementation of the proposals of the voluntary organizations, coordinate between the organizations and the divisional office, and give guidelines for the development of forts.
