Pune: Compounder With Fake Medical Degree Arrested For Running Multi-Specialty Hospital, Also Treated COVID Patients

Pune, 13th April 2021: The Pune Rural Police have arrested a compounder who allegedly used a fake medical degree to run his multi-speciality hospital. The man, identified as Mahboob Farukh Shaikh had been running a 22-bed hospital for the last two years at Karegaon in Shirur taluka.

 

He started the hospital with a forged Aadhaar card and a fake medical degree. He had also set up a separate ward for Covid patients, according to a police investigation. Police have registered a case at Ranjangaon MIDC police station and arrested the accused.

 

The local crime branch (LCB) of the Pune rural police came to know that the hospital was being run with a fake degree and name. When the police inquired, it was revealed that the accused was running Shree Morya Multispeciality Hospital under the name of Dr Mahesh Patil. He was found to have a fake MBBS degree. After further investigation, it was revealed that Dr Mahesh Patil’s real name is Mehboob Sheikh and he is a resident of Pirburhan Nagar in Nanded district. After a thorough interrogation, the police handcuffed the accused.

 

LCB Senior Police Inspector Padmakar Ghanwat said, “The police investigation revealed that Mehboob Sheikh used to work as a compounder. He was working in a hospital in Nanded. While working, he felt that he had learned medical skills and then started Maurya Multispeciality Hospital in Shirur two years ago. For this, he created a fake MBBS degree and changed the name. We are investigating where he got the fake degree. He had also started a separate ward for Covid patients.”
