Pune: Congress Opposes Balbharti-Paud Road – Mohan Joshi
Pune, 6th April 2023: The Congress has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is planning to attack Vetal Hill while the metro is being prepared for Kothrud and the surrounding area. The Congress claims that there is a senior member of the state government behind the insistence on Balbharti Paud Road and that Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil is taking a stand against the citizens of Pune at his insistence.
Congress’s state vice president, Mohan Joshi, said that the Congress stands with nature lovers in this matter. The metro work was initiated in the city to alleviate traffic congestion and ensure smooth traffic flow. There is a metro depot in the Kothrud area, and five metro stations are being constructed on the Vanaz to Garware route to improve connectivity for the citizens of the Kothrud area.
Joshi criticized the ruling authorities for not reprimanding the Mahametro for the delay in this work and instead proposing the development of Vetal Hill as a solution for traffic congestion. This, he said, is a demonstration of the government’s lack of planning and imagination.
Joshi further criticized Guardian Minister Patil for not being willing to have a simple discussion with the opposition about the proposed road and its potential impact on the environment and bird habitats on Vetal Hill.
Joshi also stated that former MLA of the party, Medha Kulkarni, is standing against this road, discussing with environmentalists, holding meetings, while Guardian Minister Patil is demanding tenders for road work. Congress plans to participate in the march organized by environment-loving citizens to save Vetal Hill.
