Pune, 29th May 2025: In a significant development in the Vaishnavi Hagawane death case, the Shivajinagar Sessions Court has sentenced Shashank Hagawane, his mother Lata Hagawane, and sister Karishma Hagawane to 14 days of judicial custody. The decision comes after the trio, accused of abetting the suicide of Vaishnavi Hagawane, were produced before the court following the completion of their police custody.

Vaishnavi Shashank Hagawane, who was allegedly driven to take her own life by hanging at her marital home, reportedly endured prolonged mental and physical harassment from her in-laws. The police investigation led to the arrest of her husband Shashank, mother-in-law Lata, sister-in-law Karishma, and other family members.

While all five accused were presented before the court after their police custody expired, the court initially remanded Shashank, Lata, and Karishma to one day’s extended police custody and the father-in-law Rajendra and brother-in-law Sushil Hagawane to police custody until 31st May. However, in today’s hearing, the court extended the judicial remand of Shashank, Lata, and Karishma to 14 days.

Earlier, during court proceedings, the Hagawane family’s lawyers attempted to cast doubt on Vaishnavi’s character, claiming she was involved in inappropriate chats, which her family strongly refuted. The controversy drew sharp criticism from Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Rohini Khadse, who condemned the lawyers’ statements. Despite these developments, the court’s decision to remand the three main accused to judicial custody marks a crucial step in the ongoing investigation.
