Pune Court Sentences Builder to Six Months Imprisonment and Rs 20 Lakh Penalty

Pune, 9th December 2024: A builder has been sentenced to six months of imprisonment and fined Rs 20 lakh for issuing cheques that were dishonoured by the bank. A senior citizen had been paying the builder for a flat between 2006 and 2016 but did not receive the property. In 2017, the builder promised to refund the money but issued cheques that bounced. A Pune court delivered the judgment in this case.
Sudhir Singh Madhav Singh Pardeshi, a 70-year-old resident of Kasba Peth, had filed a complaint against Vikas Murlidhar Chavan, the owner of Sainath Associates and a resident of Dhankawadi.
According to the complaint, Pardeshi had paid Rs 11 lakh to Chavan between 2006 and 2016 for a flat. When the flat was not delivered, Pardeshi confronted Chavan, who issued two cheques for the refund. However, both cheques bounced whenever Pardeshi tried to deposit them in the bank. After multiple unsuccessful attempts to recover his money, Pardeshi lodged a complaint against Chavan.
In court, Advocate Bilal Shaikh represented Pardeshi, with assistance from Advocates Wasim Pathan and Kedar Khopade. After hearing the case, JMFC V.P. Khandare sentenced Chavan to six months of imprisonment and ordered him to pay Rs 20 lakh as compensation to Pardeshi.
