Pune: Crane Malfunction Claims Life of Labourer in Bhor Well Project

Nasrapur, 30th April 2024: A labourer lost his life while working on a well project undertaken by the Gram Panchayat in Bhor. The mishap took place when the wire rope of the crane snapped, causing the bucket to plummet into the well. As a result, one person suffered serious injuries, while others were trapped inside the well until safely rescued.

The deceased has been identified as Ankush Prabhakar Gedam, aged 23, hailing from Gadchiroli. Vijendra Ramanand Bhardwaj, aged 49, from Uttar Pradesh, sustained severe injuries in the incident.

Eyewitnesses reported that the accident occurred during the post-lunch session while workers were being lowered into the well using the crane’s bucket. Suddenly, the wire rope gave way, causing the bucket to plunge approximately 50 feet downwards.

Ankush was struck by the iron hook of the wire rope, resulting in his immediate demise. Prompt action was taken by the village police, including Patil Ajit Shinde and Pramod Shinde, along with other workers. They swiftly summoned an ambulance and transported the injured to Nasrapur hospital. Additionally, those trapped inside the well were safely evacuated with the aid of another crane.
